Get Real About Violence

Program Overview: 

Get Real About Violence (GRAV) is a mixed-media evidenced based prevention program developed by the Comprehensive Health Education Foundation for grades K–12 that helps schools and community-based organizations build a culture of nonviolence. GRAV is promising program recognized by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP). GRAV targets a wide range of violent behavior, including bullying, teasing, and spreading rumors among younger children, and threats and assaults in later years. GRAV is designed to give students the skills to stay safe, and healthy, the curriculum shows them how to resolve conflicts without violence and prevent or avoid violent situations by using self-control. Throughout the program, students and school officials carefully examine their beliefs about stereotypes, interpersonal relationships, and popular culture. This program consists of 10 sessions implemented to K-3rd graders in Fairfield County Schools for 30-45 minutes per class. Pre and post-test questionnaires consist of yes or no questions pertaining to the lessons taught are administered and evaluated by staff.
